Higher education in Management in Brazil in the 1940s and 1950s: a discussion derived from the cooperation agreements between Brazil and the United States of America/Ensino superior em Administracao entre os anos 1940 e 1950: uma discussao a partir dos acordos de cooperacao Brasil-Estados Unidos

This study aims to discuss the development of higher education courses in Management in Brazil in the 1940s and 1950s based on the cooperation agreements made between Brazil and the United States of America. The study begins with a brief discussion of the methodology used to collect the data. This is followed by a discussion regarding the bilateral relations between the two countries. This is followed by considerations on the higher learning courses in Management that were made possible by support from the United States and a reflection on the agreements themselves. The conclusion reached is that the so-called "Americanization" of Management in Brazil is deeply rooted and that to build more self-awareness and strengthen it, it is necessary to reflect on the constitution of the field and how foreign models are received and articulated. The study ends with suggestions that future studies could further the discussion included in this article and that specific studies on the history of higher education courses in Management in Brazil should be conducted, especially that involving agreements with other institutions. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo discutir o desenvolvimento dos cursos superiores em Administracao no Brasil entre os anos 1940 e 1950 a partir dos acordos de cooperacao entre Brasil e EUA. Inicialmente discutimos brevemente a metodologia utilizada para coleta dos dados e, em seguida, apresentamos uma discussao sobre as relacoes bilaterais entre os paises. Posteriormente tecemos consideracoes sobre os cursos superiores em Administracao que contaram com o apoio estadunidense, alem de refletirmos sobre os proprios acordos. Concluimos que a dita "americanizacao" da Administracao no Brasil tem raizes profundas e que, para que um saber mais autoconsciente seja construido e fortalecido, devemos refletir sobre a constituicao da propria area, sobre como as influencias de modelos estrangeiros sao recebidas e articuladas. Por fim, sugerimos que futuras pesquisas poderiam aprofundar as discussoes realizadas, ao fazer estudos especificos sobre a historia dos cursos superiores em Administracao brasileiros, especialmente os que participaram de acordos com outras instituicoes.
