Zusammenfassung:Alto Jacui River Basin has five reservoirs set in cascade throughout its course and presents the agriculture as the main way of land use. The purpose of this paper was to assess the potential of normalized difference vegetation index in order to map the land use out. It was utilized images from the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer sensor of Terra satellite. Images from January 2009 to June 2010 were used to assess the variations of this index. Specifically, it was used images from the months of October (spring) and February (summer) in order to relate to the soil use. The huge difference in the index at spring time allowed to separate the forestry area and agricultural one and it was perceived that in summer this index is high as in forests as in agriculture, what did not allow to elaborate a map that identify these two ways of land use. Keywords: Agriculture, Remote sensing, Dams, Soil occupation, Mapping.
