Zusammenfassung: | This article invites teachers to let their students' imaginations soar as they become part of a team that will design a whole new kind of living technological museum, a facility that celebrates the world of infrastructure. In this activity, a new two-story building will be built, occupying a vacant corner parcel of land, approximately 150 feet per side, in the downtown area of your city. This building will be very unique in that it will have two basement floors. The basement floors will allow direct viewing of the city's infrastructure, such as power cables, water mains, natural gas lines, sewage piping… etc. These will be exposed and viewed via thick, clear, high-impact plastic openings. Here visitors can see how under the streets of the city lies a vast network of support systems that keep the city running and supplied with the essential services it needs. Exhibits will complement the views at the openings. Videos and movies will be used to further enhance the visitor experience, concentrating on the specific infrastructure technology shown at a particular viewing area. How might a building of this design be approached? Who is likely to be needed as part of the team originally developing the concept design for this structure? |
