Zusammenfassung: | Because of the numerous advantages of online learning, online enrollments continue to rise throughout the US. As enrollments have risen, so have the number of analyses measuring the effectiveness of online learning compared to traditional 'face to face' education. The literature contains analyses of different (and sometimes aggregated) disciplines. Accounting has not garnered as much attention as most. Seventy nine students returned completed surveys gauging their perceptions of the effectiveness of online education in Intermediate Accounting course at an online university. Eighty six percentage of the respondents reported positive results with overall distance learning. Ninety two percent agreed that flexibility was preferable to on ground educational alternatives. However, socialization and lack of face to face time with the instructor and colleagues were cited as the two major disadvantages.
