Zusammenfassung: | The German packaging ordinance know as Green Dot has sparked debate on the issue of demand-side waste management in the US, and has also been the archetype for similar laws that have been passed in other countries. The workings of the Green Dot is examined. The Green Dot is the first in a series of environmental laws that is designed to enforce the polluter pays principle. As packaging recycling programs are enacted, much of their success will depend upon the cost effectiveness of the various programs. In order to remain competitive in the marketplace, US companies that are product exporters will be obliged to conform their product packaging to meet the most demanding importing country's standards, and thus, would satisfy the lesser standards of any country. |
