Release of cotton breeding lines (Gossypium hirsutum L.) adapted to South African conditions

The cotton breeding programme of the Tobacco and Cotton Research Institute has made available a number of advanced breeding lines and cultivars of cotton for a second cycle of intercrossing and selection. Selati, Gariep and NIK3 have been released for commercial production. The material was developed from a large number of crosses between American and African introductions. Of these introductions only a small number were used successfully in simultaneous improvement of yield and fibre characteristics.
