Taxonomy and nomenclature in the genus Calycellina (Hyaloscyphaceae)

The genus Calycellina is re-described and discussed; a key to the species is presented. A new combination, Calycellina punctata, with Peziza puberula as a synonym, resolves the taxonomic and nomenclatural problems of Peziza punctiformis. The collection and isolation of Calycellina punctata into pure culture have increased available characters for identification and add to the knowledge of the holomorph. The epithet puberula, misapphed to a whitish discomycete that was subsequently renamed Pezizella pilosa, is synonymized with Calycellina populina. Other published descriptions of species of Calycellina are summarized here in alphabetical order. Mollisina acerina, an exduded species often mistaken for species of Calycellina, is re-described and discussed.
