Zusammenfassung:An analysis of combining ability for flag leaf area and some other morphological traits in a 5 x 5 diallel mating system involving wheat (Triticum aestivum L. em Thell) cultivar viz; Lyallpur-73, Blue Silver, Sandal, C-518 and Lu-26s was made. Mean squares for general and specific combining ability were highly significant for all the characters under investigation except leaf sheath length. The traits spike density and grain yield per plant also exhibiting significant reciprocal effects. Additive gene effects controlled the expression of all the parameters under study as evidenced by greater mean squares for general combining ability, except grain yield per plant. The variety C-518 possessed high GCA effects for most of the characters and was thus considered to be a good general combiner. High SCA effects for Plant Height, Grain Yield Per Plant, Flag Leaf Area, Spike Density, Leaf Sheath Length and Awn Length were manifested by crosses Sandal x C-518, Lyallpur-73 x Sandal, Lyallpur-73 x C-518, Lyallpur-73 x Blue Silver and Blue Sliver x Lu-26s.
