Batillipes pennaki Marcus, 1946, a new addition to the Thai Tardigrade fauna, with an overview of literature on the species

Tardigrades are a phylum of microscopic invertebrates (ca. 1100 species) with a worldwide distribution. Currently only ca. 17% of the total number of known species are considered entirely marine. Zusammenfassung:Tardigrades are a phylum of microscopic invertebrates (ca. 1100 species) with a worldwide distribution. Currently only ca. 17% of the total number of known species are considered entirely marine. Despite the fact that the first marine Tardigrada were described over a century ago, only two reports on marine tardigrades of Thailand have been published so far. In this paper we present the first record of Batillipes pennaki Marcus, 1946 from the Thai coast. We also summarize the current state of knowledge on the biology and ecology of the species. Additionally, a short summary of the Thai tardigrade fauna is given.
