Fruit and seed morphology in Iranian species of Fritillaria subgenus Fritillaria(Liliaceae)

Fruits and seeds of all Iranian taxa of Fritillaria subgenus Fritillaria wereinvestigated by scanning electron and light microscopy. The fruit in Fritillaria is athree-valved loculicidal capsule, longitudinal dehiscence occurs down the centre ofthe outer walls of the three compartments or loculi. The capsule is wingless and theseeds are numerous in each capsule, flattened and plus minus membranously-margined. They are often broadly ovate in outline. The testa cells have irregularshape with undulate margins.
