Cost benefit analysis of wheat, barley, oat and mustard crops forfodder production

A field experiment was designed to study the potential of wheat,barley, oat and mustard for fodder production and grain yield. Theexperiment was conducted at the University of Arid AgriculturalFarm, Rawalpindi, during 1999-2000 and 2000-01 growing seasons.Gross and net benefits of both the treatments were worked out.Growth and yield comparison shows that all of the crops differedsignificantly in plant height, tillers/m', fodder yield, grain yield,biological yield and harvest index. Oat crop produced maximumfodder yield as well as higher net income than wheat, barley andmustard. However, it produced significantly less biological yield thanbarley but similar to that of wheat and mustard. It can be concludedfrom this study that oat is the best fodder crop than wheat, barleyor mustard.
