Study of heterosis in some agronomic traits of upland cotton

A 6 x 6 diallel cross experiment was carried out at Gomal University, D.I. Khan in 1997-98 on Gossypium hirsutum L. to study the expression of heterosis over mid and better parent for yield and yield components. Out of thirty hybrids, positive heterotis and heterobeltiotic values were recorded in 17 and 8 hybrids for number of sympodia at first flowering, 26 and 17 in boll number per plant, 26 and 22 in boll weight and 26 and 26 in seed cotton yield respectively. The significant heterosis and Heterobeltiosis were performed by 2 and 1 hybrids in number of sympodia per plant, 4 and 3 in boll number per plant, 7 and 1 for boll weight and 5 and 5 in seed cotton yield, respectively.
