Zusammenfassung: | Three experiments were carried out in order to: 1. evaluate grain yield and dry matter distribution of 10 cold tolerant lines, inoculated or not with F. moniliforme under greenhouse conditions; 2. characterize the reaction to this pathogen of 196 F5 cold tolerant lines inoculated under field conditions; and 3. evaluate the natural incidence of F. moniliforme. Plants were inoculated at anthesis, by injecting 0.5 mL of a suspension of 5 x 10 conidia per mL to the peduncle of each plant. In the greenhouse, control plants (not inoculated) showed disease symptoms due to natural infection, and grain yield of inoculated plants was 6.4 % lower than the controls. In the field, there were five F5 lines with B response and seven with R response that showed low infection levels in inoculated plants. The natural incidence of this fungus is enough to cause lesions after minor physical damage to the plant. There are promising genetic sources with some tolerance to F. moniliforme among F5 cold tolerantlines.
