Zusammenfassung:We bred a new crisp head lettuce 'Shinano-Fresh' for the early-summer in Nagano. The main characteristics of this variety are summarized as follows. 1. 'Shinano-Fresh' is compact and hard to overgrow. 2. 'Shinano-Fresh' is sure-headed and tolerant to the occurrence of spiral head a kind of morphological abnormality. It can be a good-shaped lettuce at harvesting time. 3. 'Shinano-Fresh' has less leaves outside of its head and more leaves inside of its head than 'Shinano-Summer and 'Shinano-Green' that were the standard variety for these experiments.
