The influence of tetrachlorodecaoxide and hemin on ice nucleation activity and viability of Pseudomonas fluorescens biovar 1 isolated from Ulmus minor

In summer 1987, an ice nucleation-active bacteria strain was isolated from elm (Ulmus minor) leaves. The bacteria were characterized as Pseudomonas fluorescens biovar 1. Ice nucleation activity (INA) was determined as T10 -3.81 degrees C, T50 -3.98 degrees C and T90 -4.31 for bacteria suspended in K...

Zusammenfassung:In summer 1987, an ice nucleation-active bacteria strain was isolated from elm (Ulmus minor) leaves. The bacteria were characterized as Pseudomonas fluorescens biovar 1. Ice nucleation activity (INA) was determined as T10 -3.81 degrees C, T50 -3.98 degrees C and T90 -4.31 for bacteria suspended in King's medium B. After pretreatment with the oxidant TCDO in combination with the activator hemin, the T50-value was reduced to -9.31 degrees C and -14.48 degrees C for bacteria suspended in King's medium B or in phosphate buffer, respectively. In each case, bacterial viability was reduced by 100 per cent
