Ostracod surviving the F/F event in the boundary type section at Coumiac (Montagne Noire, France)
In the Frasnian-Famennian boundary type section at Coumiac, eleven ostracod species pass through this boundary and are not affected by the Kellwasser event in contrast to fourty-eight other species from the Uppermost Frasnian. Zusammenfassung: | In the Frasnian-Famennian boundary type section at Coumiac, eleven ostracod species pass through this boundary and are not affected by the Kellwasser event in contrast to fourty-eight other species from the Uppermost Frasnian. Four species are new: Amphissites imbecillus nov. sp., Acratia (Cooperuna) feisti nov. sp., Famenella postkairovaensis nov. sp. and Bairdia (Rectobairdia) n. sp. A. The other species belong to the genera: Orthocypris, Healdianella, Newsomites, Xixionopsis, Bairdia and Praebythoceratina. This set of surviving species is characterized by: an important percentage of Podocopida (78 per cent); a great number of smooth species; a low anagenetic evolution of species through the Frasnian-Famennian boundary; a low mean size. The Lazarus effect concept may be applied: these species should have survived the hypoxic Upper Kellwasser episode owing to populations sheltered in shallow oxygenated nearshore environments from which the recolonization took place at the beginning of the Famennian. |
