Effect of fertilizer and weed control on the emergence and early growth of five leguminous fodder shrubs

A field experiment in Queensland involved Sesbania sesban, S. formosa, Leucaena leucocephala, Acacia angustissima and Calliandra calothyrsus. Weed control was important. Use of fast-growing types may be warranted where adequate weed control measures are not available. Use of N and P fertilizers may encourage weed growth to the detriment of the less vigorous species.
