Romanian text in Cyrillic characters 'Signs’. - Ex-libris label.- Ex-libris buffer.- BRV II (488), p. 305. - The text is a translation from the Russian language of the archpriest Mihail Strilbiţchi, Russian engraver of Polish origin, during the period of great influence of the Swiss writer, philosopher, physiologist and theologian Johann Kaspar Lavater, who sought to encephalically locate the soul phenomena. As well as the works of this writer and this book follow the same model in knowing the character of man after the body’s features. The predoslovie specifies the purpose of this book to “serve for cheerful sunshine,” it does not hope to find in “its desertions” “despetation.” We find in its contents comments about the character of a person explained by various physical features or momentary manifestations. Among the physical features examined are: the whole body, the faces resembling animals, about hair, jaws, forehead, eyes, ears, nose, nostrils, etc.; and of the manifestations studied are those about walking, laughing, sighing, etc. Thus “beautiful and clean eyes, love at the stars and too laughing, the middle eyes, mean straight and bold man,” while “the smooth laughter means man without malice.” The book ends with two instructions about how we can get to know “the signs shown before death” and how we can distinguish a sick man from an old man..
