Zusammenfassung: | Subtitled as “monthly artistic magazine” and written in French and Spanish, it is an illustrated publication of ancient and modern Spanish art dedicated to fine arts, especially painting and sculpture, but it also offers, together with artistic criticism, literary and information and chronicles on exhibitions, such as the V International Exhibition of Fine Arts of Barcelona or the Spanish-French held in Zaragoza, as well as on antiques, etc. Based on Parisian models, according to Juan Miguel Sánchez Vigil, it is the most serious and important attempt to continue the tradition of Catalan magazines at the beginning of the century Quatre gats and Pèl & Ploma, in the opinion of Joan Torrent and Rafael Tasis. It was created and lead by one of the main protagonists of Catalan plastic modernism, Miquel Utrillo and Morlius (1862-1934), who, together with Ramón Casas, financed it.
It publishes a total of 26 issues, often monthly, from February 1904 until the beginning of 1908. The title of its cover is printed in relief and gold and its binding is paperback. It was printed on paper cuché from the graphic workshop of the Catalan engraver Josep Thomas Bigas. Each issue, around fifty pages, publishes an average of about fifty illustrations and a dozen color sheets, as well as photographs.
Qualified as “exquisite and minority,” each issue is dedicated to an artist (Sorolla, Zuloaga, Ruiseño, etc.) and is one of the first publications that deals with the young Pablo Picasso. Texts from Miquel Utrillo, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Francisco Acebal, Luis de Zulueta or José Pijoán, among others, as well as reproduction of works by Ramón Casas, and Juan Broll, Ricardo Baroja, Manuel Benedito and Joaquín Mir, among others, appear.
