Raport arheologic: Cumidava/Râșnov/comuna: or. Râșnov/județul: Brașov/punct: Grădiște, Erdenburg (2012)

The excavations in the praetentura sinistra of the Roman auxiliary fort Cumidava (Râșnov), started in 2006, continued in 2012. In this season of excavations we dug 7 new trenches of 6x4 m separated by one meter wide balks: Sp 17, 18 , 19, - 34, - 44, - 11, - 11 bis. We also continued the excavations of the older trenches – 45 and – 55 and of some of the balks between the trenches. In the areas Sp 17, 18 and 19 we uncovered the foundation trench of the western wall of the long building located in the eastern side of our excavation. In the trenches Sp – 11 and – 11 bis we discovered the contubernia of the southern end of the wooden barrack. The end of the barrack was superposed by the via principalis belonging to the second building period of the fort. In the areas Sp – 34, - 44 and - 45 we discovered the rooms of the barracks located between the wooden barrack already uncovered and via sagularis. The defensive wall of the second period fort was discovered in the trench – 55. In 2012 were discovered a lot of small finds among witch: 44 coins, 22 of them making a hoard of denarii, military equipment items – spear and arrow heads, a sling shot, two rectangular belt bronze belt buckles, one bronze belt plate, a crescent pendant, a harness loop – brooches, one of them enamelled, styli and a number of civilian objects – a bulla, hair pins and a key ring. For the first time we found two stone gems – one undecorated made of nicolo and one decorated with military standards, from carnelian. Besides the Roman items, was found a medieval bronze sheath fragment.
