Zusammenfassung:The preventive archaeological research from Turdaș Luncă took place from the 2nd of May to the 15th of November 2011, in the framework of the investment project round raod Deva-Orăștie. The beneficiaries of the project were the Association Strabag AG - SC Strabag SRL - SC Straco Grup SRL and CNADNR. The purpose of the project was the survey of the entire width of the future highway, from km 11.000 to km 12.450. Also, there were included two access strips from the highway to the county road, at an approximate distance of 400 m, with an average width of 30 m. The traces of the archaeological site started at km 11.200 and ended to km 12.180. From the chronological point of view, we noticed the existence of the following archaeological cultures in vertical or horizontal succession: Starčevo-Criș, Turdaș, Petrești, Coțofeni, Dacian period with two phases of inhabiting, Roman period, and Medieval period with two phases of occupation. The architecture of the site comprises the following types of site and habitation: for Starčevo-Criș Culture, sunken-floored buildings; For Turdaș culture, a complex fortification system, 200 m wide in the eastern part and 150 m in the western part. This system was identified also on the trajectory of the highway in the central area, comprising ditches, palisades, successive fences (small palisades), towers and entrances. The fortification has a diameter of approximately 1 km. Inside, we identified 3-4 phases of occupation, the first one composed of sunken-floored buildings and the last one, with very large surface dwellings, with cellars and other specific architectural elements; for the Petrești culture we identified surface dwellings; for the Coțofeni culture, we identified sunken-floored buildings and huts; for the Dacian period we identified two horizons of ritual pits; for the Roman period was identified a fountain, reused in the medieval period; for the Medieval period we discovered pits and fountains. All archaeological materials, plans and databases are to be found at the Brukenthal National Museum.
