Raport arheologic: Cristian/comuna: Cristian/județul: Sibiu/punct: Cristian III (2011)

During October-December 2011 the preventive archaeological excavation in the archaeological site Cristian III, from Cristian, Sibiu county with traces belonging to two periods of habitation took place. For an exhaustive investigation of the Starčevo-Criș layer, the archaeological excavation was extended until February 2012. The first archaeological level is represented by a settlement belonging to the Starčevo-Criș culture, with a fortification system with palisades, towers and entrances, and sunken-flooreddeepened dwellings. This horizon belongs to the Starčevo-Criș culture, phase III. The second archaeological level is represented by a Late Bronze Age settlement, belonging to the Noua culture. The settlement is composed of surface dwellings with a complex system of pits used as cellars or storehouses and a fortification with stone core ditches. The dwellings were found inside and outside the fortified structure. All archaeological materials, plans and databases are to be found at the Brukenthal National Museum.
