Under the contemporary aspect of the Calvinist Church from Zalău lies the old parish church of the medieval village of Zalău. The monument suffered extreme modifications that totally reshaped it. The last great modification was made in 1906 and it still stands today. Between 15th and 18th of July 2011, an archaeological excavation was carried out in the proximity of the monument. The trench had a salvage purpose, as the area investigated was going to be disturbed by geological prospects and other technical data that served for the future rehabilitation of the monument. The trench was conventionally called area S1/2011 (Trench no. 1/2011) and was made at the request of the Calvinist Eparchy. We discovered at least 7 graves, foundation walls and other features.
