Raport arheologic: Șuțești/comuna: Șuțești/județul: Brăila/punct: Terasa I (2011)

The main objectives we proposed for this second campaign of archaeological investigations had to be abandoned because of the field preparations from the early spring agricultural campaign. In this situation only three small sections were made, judiciously placed in order to protect the future culture of winter wheat. In all sections a great number of pottery fragments appear, most of them being specific to the Sântana de Mureș Culture, including imported Roman fragments. An interesting discovery was made on the edge of the terrace, which seems to have a ditch parallel with it. A few pits were identified as well. In the absence of vegetation an almost levelled tumulus was identified. It should be explored in one of the next campaigns otherwise the systematic plough will make him disappear. Reflecting on this short presentation, it seems necessary to perform a systematic investigation, first of all for reasons of preservation, because the site is on an agrarian field which is ploughed every year, and secondly because, in spite of the fact that that Sântana de Mureș Culture is well documented in Brăila County, until now no systematic investigations were made of this kind of sites.
