Archaeological report: Măxineni/comuna: Măxineni/Raport county: Brăila/dot: Monastery (2010)

The ruin of Măxineni Monastery is situated in the close vicinity of the centre of the mediaeval village of Măxineni, as well as of the villages of Voinești (Voilești), Latinu and Corbu Vechi. Around the ruin of the church (1637m rebuilt 1857-1859) there is the cemetery of the mediaeval village of Măxineni and of the monastery, as well as the foundations of some annexes and of the precinct walls. The excavation was intended to identify some mediaeval occupation traces, the cemetery, the precinct wall and the cellar of the abbey. We discovered 12 inhumation graves both inside and outside the courtyard, on both sides of the precinct wall, and other four graves south of the monastery. In the area of the building of the abbey the excavation was not completed.
