Archaeological report: Sâncrăieni/comuna: Sâncrăieni/juRaport: Harghita/dot: intravilan, no. 736 (2009)

The site is situated on the left terrace of the Olt river within the built area right near DN 12A. The area is known in literature as very rich in archaeological traces dating to the age of the migrations, the Early and Late Middle Ages, however, the site, an open settlement is very disturbed. Most of it was destroyed for ever when a national road was built in the ’60s, and since then whenever houses were built, sand and clay works were conducted, agriculture was practiced or the gardens of the houses were continuously arranged. Close to lot no. 736, about 200 away to the south there is the ruin of Andrassy mansion (the 16th century). The aim of the rescue excavations was to document the archaeological features uncovered when a pit was dug in the courtyard. Following the archaeological investigation we discovered about 20 archaeological features, most of them pits and a few fireplaces. Most features that contained datable archaeological material come from the Middle Ages, the 11th - 18th centuries.
