Zusammenfassung: | During the 2009 archaeological campaign at Turnu (Fortress) site, we have continued the diggings at the main section S1 started in 2008, on a segment with the sizes of 24, 5 m in length and 2 m in width, located between the central tower’s wall and the first sector investigated in the 2006-2007 campaigns. The section overlapped an area that had not previously been explored and that crossed the first and the second enclosing wall, including the well inside the precinct. The research ended before reaching the foundation and the live soil due to the ground-water layer. Nevertheless, there have been identified important clues regarding the construction structure, some of them surprising, like the moat’s counterscarp wall on the southern side of the fortress. The result of the research at Cassette 1, located east of the main section, was the discovery of the southern gate. The archaeological material found in the site is relevant for the epoch when the castle had been functioning and its resident community. |
