Zusammenfassung: | The archaeological excavations carried out in C1/1994 during the 2009 campaign in Capidava have been materialized in two main actions: the dismantlement of the baulk from the south western chamber of the building and the sectioning of the eastern chamber. The baulk left between the south western chamber and the northern one from the building C1/1994 was 3 m wide and 0.5 m thick with a height of approx. 1.1m. In its northern part the baulk covered the wall that separated the south western chamber from the other two rooms from north and east. The entrance between the S-W chamber and the northern one was also covered. At the entrance there has been discovered a hoard of 34 coins, folles and halves of follis grouped on a surface of approx. 100 cm2 in the form of a roll of money spread on the ground, many of the pieces being superposed. The hoard dates from the 6th century, more precisely between the reign of Justinian I and Tiberius II Constantine. In the second half of the campaign we tried to identify the stratigraphy of the defence ditch C1/1994 on the SE-NW axe, parallel with via principalis. The working method was to first excavate the ditch from the eastern chamber on its length reaching thus a maximum depth of 0.60m versus the initial level. The archaeological material found in the ditch consisted in a few ceramic fragments dating from the 6th century and a fragmentary dollium found in situ and damaged during the initial excavation of the late ditch. |
