Zusammenfassung: | The archaeological excavations in the area of the necropolis in Alba Iulia-Brîndușei Street took place between the 21st of July and the 8th of August 2008, on the property of Mrs. Mărginean Floarea (authorization for preventive archaeological excavation no. 175/2008). As for the graves discovered in 2008, their number followed the numbers given in the previous years (1997-2007). The explored area (14 x 10 m) is located between the properties of Ioan Stan (to the West) and D. Bozdog Flaviu (to the East). In 2008, 20 burials were discovered (men, women and children), oriented V-E or NV-SE. Several tombs were bordered with unshaped stones: M. 214, M. 217 and M. 219. Funerary inventory is specific for the 11th century and consist in: finger rings (form 29 Giesler), hair rings with the ends bent in an “S” shape, bell, bone pendant, bracelet (form 17 Giesler) and coins issued by the kings of Arpadian dynasty, sometimes perforated (Stefan I, Aba Samuel, Andrei I). The graves discovered in 2008 in Alba Iulia-Brîndușei Str. were dated similarly with those discovered in the previous years (10th-11th century), with the exception of M230, dated in the 4th century and attributed to the Sântana de Mureș-Cerneahov culture. |
