Location: Trecere bac (Ferryboat) The archaeological investigations into the Byzantine fortress at Nufăru focused during the 2008 campaign in the north region of the promontory on which the settlement stands, in the site of Trecere bac (still Enache Șinghi property), representing a complex zone from an archaeological point of view, including a segment of the north curtain of the Byzantine fortification and its port facilities, with the cemetery and the mediaeval habitation covering it. East of the area comprising the port facilities of the Byzantine fortress, discovered in 1999, during the 2002, 2004-2007 campaigns we investigated an area of 300 m², approximately, with a view to revealing the fortification elements adjacent to the wharf, as well as a few subsequent burial features. The 2008 campaign had three objectives: 1. Carrying on the investigation into the mediaeval cemetery, in S8 (10 x 8 m, oriented to the N-S) and S9 (10 x 6.50 m, oriented to the N-S) and by dismantling the stratigraphical baulk ,1 m wide, between these; 2. Carrying on the investigation into the precincts wall, in S9; 3. Carrying on the investigation into the Byzantine monument represented by the port facility complex, to delimit it to the East, in S9 and to establish the north limit of the port facility pavement, in S 11 (9.30 x 2 m, oriented to the N-S).
