Zusammenfassung:The Dacian fortified settlement at Tilișca, Sibiu county, is situated on Cățănaș Hill. Known in the relevant literature since the end of the 19th century, it was rediscovered and systematically excavated between 1959 and 1965. The 2004 campaign excavation was focused on the research of the dwelling tower no. 1. A special result of the excavations of this year is the full uncovering of the entrance door to the tower. It is the east wall door, four meters from its south end, and its design and structure prove the remarkable architectural knowledge and the skills of the workers who cut into the rock and moulded it. The door threshold is a well finished limestone block that in the upper part is fitted with a step laid along its length. On its lower step the ancient builders carried out a parallelepiped-shaped hollow 0.3 m long, 0.13 m wide and 0.06 m deep. The only possible explanation for this shallow hollow in the threshold is that it was used as inlet for the end of a hard piece of wood laid vertically on the inner side of the door itself in the opposite part to the joints. It is very likely that in the upper part of the framework there was a similar clearance where the upper end of the piece of wood was fastened. This way the entrance door to the tower ground level could be blocked from the inside. Supposing that the role of the hollow in the threshold was that and then it was logic that the tower ground level communicated inside with the upper level that was used as a dwelling place. The archaeological material consists in pottery (fruit trays, storage vessels, and pots with and without handles), a door joint and a bronze ornament fragment.
