| Zusammenfassung: | This rescue excavation was conducted in the ground floor of the new tower gate. This structure was raised in the 15th century, during John of Hunedoara’s reign. Several phases of construction, between the 15th and 17th centuries were found, as well as a road metal floor and one segment from a wall. In the same time, the traces of a quite recent excavation were identified in this part of the castle.
Turnul nou de poartă este plasat pe latura nord-vestică a monumentului medieval și face parte din prima etapă de lucrări din vremea lui Ioan de Hunedoara, fiind o construcție rectangulară, grosimea zidurilor la parter fiind de 2,60 m, cu rol de apărare. Cercetarea, a fost inițiată cu ocazia lucrărilor de instalare a țevilor de canalizare aparținând grupurilor sanitare din subsolul aripii nordice (aripa Matei) a castelului și-a afectat parterul turnului nou de poartă. Au fost identificate nivelurile de amenajare a turnului. |
