Zusammenfassung:The site at Pottlebane 2 was excavated by Archaeological Consultancy Services Ltd (ACS) as part of the M3 Clonee–North of Kells Motorway Scheme on behalf of Meath County Council NRDO and the NRA. A small cluster of four pits, each no bigger than c. 1.6m diameter, and each different in shape and content, were located on a slight rise. A small quantity of cremated bone was recovered from one of these pits. This was identified as possibly human and was probably that of an adolescent/adult although the sex could not be determined. It is likely that this feature contains the disturbed remains of a token cremation. This pit was not dated but it is, in all likelihood prehistoric in date. Charred remains were recovered from a second pit and this feature was dated to the early medieval period (10th-12th century AD). It would seem therefore that the features identified within this site were not contemporary but represented different phases of temporary occupation throughout the prehistoric and historic period.
