Archaeological excavation report, 98E0444 Benedin, County Tipperary

The site at Benedin was investigated as part of an archaeological mitigation strategy for the construction of the N7 Bypass, Nenagh Co. Tipperary (Fig. 1). The investigations at this site took place between 16th and 25th September 1998. The archaeological excavation took place under licence 98E0444.Three areas of archaeological interest were identified and these were subsequently assigned the following RMP numbers: Area A: TN020- 133001, Area B: TN020-133002 and Area C: TN020-134 (Fig. 3). Each area is also described in the Archaeological Inventory of North Tipperary. The reference for each area is as follows: Area A: 207 OS20:12:5 (Farrelly and O?Brien 2002, 40), Area B: 293 OS20:12:5 (Farrelly and O?Brien 2002, 50) and Area C: 208 OS20:12:5 (Farrelly and O?Brien 2002, 40). This document comprises the final report on these excavations and integrates the results of various specialist analyses that were undertaken on material recovered from these sites.
