Zusammenfassung: | Dr Constantinos Spyridakis was a man of letters. Born in Nicosia in 1903 he obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy in 1934 from the University of Berlin where he had also studied ancient history and the Classics. Before that he had studied philology at the University of Athens. He served as Principal of the Pancyprian Gymnasium fort wenty-four years (1936-1960) and was founder of scientific societies and research centers, which were internationally recognized. In 1952 he was elected member of the Athens Academy and in 1969 was made Honorary Doctor of the University of Thessaloniki. He published several works including a ""Brief History of Cyprus"" (1964-1972) and ""History of Ancient Cyprus"". He was Minister of Education from 1965 to 1970. He died in 1976. |
