Zusammenfassung:Extended description: Questions are raised concerning the provision of a transport service versus the promotion of Irish tourism and the role that Aer Lingus has to play in both. Bill O'Herlihy talks to Hector Fabron, President of the Irish Hotels Federation, who comments that this decision may be a false economy on the part of Aer Lingus, who are facing increased financial pressures. O'Herlihy also speaks to Con McGovern, Director of Pan American Airways in Ireland, who says that people will not come to Ireland if the feeder service between Shannon and Dublin does not exist. Liam Boyd, Director of Trans World Airlines (T.W.A.) in Ireland talks about airline scheduling difficulties. Roger A. Sorenson, Counsellor of the American Embassy argues that the solution is for the American airlines to be permitted to provide a service that Aer Lingus no longer wants to provide. Information: Bill O'Herlihy reports for '7 Days' on the cancellation of feeder service to transatlantic flights in Shannon. This episode of '7 Days' was broadcast on 16 April 1971. 'Seven Days' (it later became '7 Days') began broadcasting on 26 September 1966 and was RTÉ television's flagship current affairs programme for ten years. The programme's young production team was made up of producer Lelia Doolan, directors Eoghan Harris and Dick Hill, and reporters John O'Donoghue, Brian Cleeve and Brian Farrell. Muiris Mac Conghail became producer of '7 Days' in 1967 when the programme was merged with another current affairs programme, 'Division'. A look at the difficulties and challenges facing Aer Lingus as it decides to scrap its feeder service to transatlantic flights in Shannon. Original language summary: -
