Zusammenfassung: | "The concept of demarcation is one of the central keywords of the sociological debate on the change of the world of work. Among other things, it describes a change in the relationship between work organization and execution with extended work tasks and their integration and also aims at changes in the relation between work and life. The article introduces a concept of “multiple demarcation of work” and illustrates this with the example of the work of flight personnel in commercial air traffic. The latter has changed dramatically: former oligarchic market structures with fixed processes in ground and flight activities have been abandoned and, as a result, airlines are establishing themselves as“new types” with completely changed market conditions and comparatively slim construction and departure organization. The resulting cost advantages force the incumbent companies to follow up with their own low-cost carriers. In the meantime, a competition has emerged in which simultaneous competition and cooperation are of course part of the companies' actions (code-sharing). In organizational terms, they move to forms in which IuK technologies play a central role: corresponding reorganizations increase the control capability of machines and personnel alike. Flexibility is also created by changing personnel deployment systems as well as by fixed-term or seasonal contracts. On board, the tasks of pilots and flight attendants change. At the same time, both status groups lose prestige, the profession seems less attractive. From a subject-related sociological perspective, the concept of multiple demarcation systematically integrates the partly disparate (and status-related) consequences of the outlined processes for flight personnel. Beyond the mere juxtaposition of phenomena, it focuses on the limitations of different demarcations in their cumulative or mitigating effects and thus seeks to fertilize the sociological discussion of work, apart from the mere identification of stresses."(author’s abstract)
