Zusammenfassung: | This exhibition was the first exhibition of the new ModeMuseum (MoMu) under the direction of curator Linda Loppa, in collaboration with guest curator Bob Verhelst.ìThe relationship between geometry and fashion is by no means evident. A formal analysis of the clothing reveals its relationship to geometry. Each garment - regardless of its origin or material - is in fact reduced to a geometric surface or a 2-dimensional pattern of flat surfaces. The exhibition wanted to apply such a formal analysis to contemporary fashion and historical and ethnic clothing. The flat surfaces and geometric patterns are draped around the body in three dimensions by folding, adjusting, wrapping, measuring, pleating and wrinkling. These processes were illustrated in the exhibition from a historical and a contemporary perspective. There were several locations for this exhibition: a.o. the Royal Museum of Fine Arts and St-Andries church.

The relationship between geometry and fashion is by no means obvious. A formal analysis of clothing brings out its relationship with geometry. Each piece of clothing - regardless of its origin or material - can in fact be reduced to a geometrical surface or to a 2-dimensional pattern of flat surfaces. The exhibition sought to apply such a formal analysis to contemporary fashion, historical and ethnical clothing. The flat surfaces and geometrical patterns are draped in 3 dimensions around the body by folding, fitting, wrapping, measuring, pleating and gathering. These processes were illustrated in the exhibition from a historical and a contemporary perspective. There were different venues for this exhibition: e.g. Royal Museum of Fine Arts, St-Andries church…
