Zusammenfassung:An archaeological watching brief undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited at North Wharf Gardens, London W2. The watching brief observed groundworks associated with the removal of foundation obstructions, the lifting of concrete slabs, enabling works and bulk ground reduction for the construction of a double basement. It recorded a sequence of modern and post-medieval made ground that sealed deposits of silty clays with evidence of agricultural activity as well as a layer of compact gravel which could be a road or yard surface. Cut features and masonry structures were also recorded including 19th century walls, basements drainage features and pits. Whilst very variable due to the nature of the previous impacts, natural geology was encountered during the watching brief at a high point of 30.20m OD for the upper gravels and 28m OD for the underlying silty sands.
