Zusammenfassung: | "Geography for Life: National Geography Standards, Second Edition" ("GFL2") is the recently released update of the original edition published in 1994. The original edition of "Geography for Life" provided excellent guidance on geographic content for teachers, curriculum designers, publishers, and pre-service teachers as well as many other educators for almost two decades. The 1994 document also provided a strong starting point for work on the second edition. The new edition contains updates and features in a new three-column format that is designed to be more user-friendly. Additionally, the document will be available in a PDF version as well as print, which allows for faster searching, digital manipulation, and access to additional information. However, the goal of the document remains the same: to create geographically informed persons. "GFL2" is organized to present the geographic perspectives, content knowledge, and skills together as the necessary components of being able to actively "do" geography. Therefore, the bulk of the content in the second edition is organized in Part II of the document. The sections in Part II include: (1) Doing Geography: The Geographic Lens on the World; (2) Looking at the World in Multiple Ways: Geographic Perspectives; (3) Knowing about the World: Geographic Content Knowledge; and (4) Asking and Answering Geographic Questions about the World: Geographic Skills. In this article, the author provides a brief overview of each of these sections. (Contains 2 figures.) |
