Zusammenfassung: | The implications of a renewed model of citizenship education developed on the principles of ecology and ecological interdependence are explored. It is argued that neither the technocratic nor progressive philosophy adequately addresses fragile state of the planet's life systems or the role of the human within the larger context of the earth's community. The challenges of supporting the shift to deep ecological citizenship through education, and how the agenda can be furthered through are also considered. To enhance ecological awareness and values across the curriculum, it is necessary to move beyond ecology as a form of information or knowledge to ecology as a basis for deep citizenship education. |
