The Parental Home and Its Influence on the Aspirations and Life Strategies of Young Men and Women

In this article we will examine the characteristics of families of urban school upper-grade students who were surveyed in 1995. The family is one of the most important factors of socialization, largely determining the individual's system of value orientations, aspirations, and life strategies. Our plan is to examine the socioeconomic position and sociopsychological characteristics of the family, and to determine the connections between these variables and the aspirations of adolescents and their life strategies. In addition, we will compare young people's aspirations with the present characteristics of their parental families in order to determine the planes of inter-generational mobility.
