Zusammenfassung: | This paper reports results from a survey of 5th through 12th grade students in a small city school district. Survey respondents evaluated the helpfulness of their school's specific prevention programs, including punitive sanctions, and also gave their views on the adequacy and fairness of school and legal punishments for common drug and alcohol offenses. The most favorably evaluated prevention activities were those providing support and skills for non-use. Punitive sanctions delivered at the school or through external legal authorities received more variable responses: those directed at the most serious drug offenses were strongly supported while punishments for common alcohol violations were seen as inappropriate. |
