Zusammenfassung:Nations with educational and training infrastructures able to provide required human resources have faced significantly less trauma than those which failed to reform their systems. Catching up with trends is always more difficult - and problematic - than having been prepared for those trends in advance. This article examines education and training sector developments in selected "traditional" developing nations, newly-industrialising countries (NIC), and the "new development frontier" in Eastern Europe from a comparative perspective by extracting trends explored in earlier articles... "Post-compulsory" refers to programmes enrolling young adults over the age at which attendance in "formal" institutions is stipulated by legislation. In addition to formal institutions, considerable post-compulsory young adult education and training is delivered in non-formal institutions, particularly those operated by National Training Boards.
