Zusammenfassung: | This action research project sought to increase the use of appropriate social skills by middle school students through an increased instructional emphasis on social skills. The specific social skills addressed were listening, encouraging, self-control, appropriate manners, and accepting others' ideas. These skills were introduced using M-charts and were explored in 2-week blocks using cooperative grouping, role play, direct instruction, journaling, discussion, and modeling. Post-intervention surveys and checklists indicated an increase in student use of targeted social skills. (Six appendices contain surveys, checklists, and lesson materials. Contains 19 references.)
