Zusammenfassung: | The community-based college is both community and learner oriented. It is a cooperator with the community in joint meaningful human endeavors. The Junior College District of Metropolitan Kansas City will open as a Fourth College of the District, a college without walls. This college will take into account the need for community-based, performance-oriented learning, as opposed to the offerings of traditional colleges. Already in operation as a first phase of the undertaking is the Metropolitan Institute of Community Services, which serves some 6,000 "new students" in community-based programs. If education is to be truly community based, the means must be found to reach all potential learners and assist them in the continuous process of "self-renewal," both individually and collectively.
