Date May 9, 1997Amyloid aggregation in animals is inhibited by administering a naphthylazo compound of formula (I), wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, or complete a heterocyclic ring, R3 is hydrogen or alkyl, R4, R5, R6, and R7 are substitutent groups. The compounds are especially useful in preventing and treating Alzheimer's disease.
