Zusammenfassung:	In the process, in which measurements relating to the progress of metabolism are carried out, at least one of the parameters which derive from the culture conditions and/or additions of foreign substances and/or properties of the organism is subjected continuously to a gradient changing in the direction towards a preset value, and the metabolic performance of the culture is continuously determined. The apparatus contains a culture vessel (10) which has a device for forcing fresh medium to flow through and whose drainage connector is located so that the culture volume is constant. The apparatus additionally contains a control unit (24) for gradually changing the addition of foreign substances and/or medium and the temperature, as well as a recording device.
