Zusammenfassung:	1458703 Flash-spinning CROWN ZELLERBACH INTERNATIONAL Inc 11 March 1974 [12 March 1973] 10819/74 Heading B5B [Also in Division D2] Polymer fibres are prepared by flash-spinning a mixture of the polymer and a solvent at a temperature above the boiling point of the solvent and sufficiently high to render the polymer plastic or in solution. The flash-spinning is accomplished by passing the mixture from a zone of higher pressure into one of a pressure of at most 600 mm. Hg. so that substantially all the solvent evaporates precipitating the polymer as a fibrous mass. The low pressure zone is in direct communication with a disc refiner, so that the fibrous mass is refined at a pressure which is also below 600 mm. Hg. A non-solvent such as water is optionally present in the original mixture and a hydrophilic water-dispersing agent such as polyvinyl alcohol is preferably also included. The use of polyethylene and polypropylene is exemplified.
