Zusammenfassung:The invention relates to a system for checking the authenticity of a product (2), according to which the product (2) is provided with an identification (3), the information from which is read by a detector (6, 16, 20) and is transmitted to a database (9) via an information network (8) and is compared with information stored there, wherein a decision regarding the authenticity or inauthenticity of the product (2) is generated as a result of the comparison and the result of this decision is signalled at the location of the product (2). The product (2) is a packaged foodstuff and the detector (6, 20) is arranged in a refrigerator (1) in which the product (2) is placed. The invention also relates to a system for optically identifying from above products (2) on a transparent shelf surface (11, 22).
